Planning
With this project I planned to incorporate both inspirations, both traditional and modern. I reviewed many of Frida Kahlo’s painting to see the common parts she includes in her painting. On paper, I made multiple sketching designed for how I would like the final product to appear. As Well as making sketches, I reviewed different color pallets to incorporate into the final illustration. I watched multiple videos and documentaries on Frida Kahlo’s history of painting in attempts to include as much as possible of her work into my illustration.
Process
With this illustration I experimented a lot with colors that go together and shading. This project had me changing what atb of the application Procreate I was working on consistently to test out well different colors work together. I found myself constantly testing different hues of purple, orange and greens in experiments of how the colors would react to one another.
The beginning of this drawing was completed by sketching out the focal figure and background plants. I continued by adding basic color outline of the primary objects. The leaves were a combination of multiple shades of vibrant greens blurred together with the lighter end facing the upper right corner of the image to give a sense of where the lighting would effect shading. The focal figure hair was made with a base of deep brown with many lighter shades of dark brown and red over it to gives the detail of strand of hair, for the lighter side i added golden strands to mimic what the hair would look like if the sunshine hit it. To shade different areas of the drawing I would draw where I would want the shadow in a deep, vibrant purple, blur it out minorly, and add a multiplier effect before lowering the opacity. Completing the image I added vibrancy and brightness on Adobe Photoshop before printing the image out. |
