4(four)
20” by 36”
Printed and edited photographs compilation of photographs taken over the span of the past four years. The photos chosen hold significance to me as I took each landscape photo with my partner present, making the images hold symbolism of the past years of our relationship.
Inspiration and Reasoning
Stephen Vellecca tries to have his pictures tell a story, usually consisting of either vibrant colors, completely black and white, or the 1960’s Americana aesthetic. I was drawn to have Vellecca due to the unique color contrast of his photography style, along with the fact he takes his pictures using his iPhone, and not an expensive camera. He takes pictures of a variety of things in many different angles than most and I found that intriguing. More common themes Vellecca captures are cars, people, nature mixing with mankind, and vintage signs and buildings. For my final piece, i gained a lot of inspiration from the, untitled, second image in the slide show. I really enjoyed how the bright sky contrasted against the dark land and carnival. From this photo, along with Vellecca's common theme with a small town aesthetic is what created my final piece.

Planning
I wanted this project to be a compilation of photographs taken over the past four years in an order that most resembles the order of a rainbow. These images will tell a personal story to me, just as Vellecca, my inspiration goes for. The photos chosen hold significance to me as I took each landscape photo with my partner present, making the images hold symbolism of the past years of our relationship.
Process
With the familiarity I have using the adobe photo shop I found the process of editing the images, compiling them with the correct sizes onto the correct background, and printing the final image off quite easy. Even with the background knowledge I still greatly experimented with the different image colorings. I tested out several combinations and filters for how the images could be compiled and what feeling it could give the audience it is presented to. I resulted in bright and vibrant colors that highly contrast the dark background the forefront of the four images. I purposefully included the dark image horizon lines to seem as if they connect with that of the next image, making for the four images seem as if they were taken close together while some were really taken miles apart.
Once the images were chosen, I compiled them onto a fully black, 36” by 24” size, background on adobe photo shop. From there I continued by adjusting sizes and resolution, cropping and sizing up the chosen photos to ensure each image was the same size as the one next to it. I also edited each image to increase the vibrancy and contrast, making the bright sunsets and sunrises pop against the dark foreground and black background. The images were placed in rainbow order to give a sense of organization. The way the images were arranged also mimic a connecting line if one follows the horizon line from image to image. This connection gives the chosen images a feel of relationship, almost seeming like they were taken one after another in a similar location when they were not.
